FileMaker Pro 10 in Depth

FileMaker Pro 10 provides a wide range of new features, and all of them are covered in FileMaker Pro 10 in Depth. Each new version of FileMaker provides new goodies, but they're usually clustered in specific areas. This release has major new features for the user interface and for scripters along with a host of other changes and additions. The most noticeable interface change is the replacement of the old Status Area (at the left of FileMaker windows, but sometimes hidden by users or scripts) with the new Status Toolbar at the top of the window (likewise hide-able). The Status Toolbar is customizable so that you can add your most-used commands to it and delete those you don't use so often. For scripters, the most important change is the additions of script triggers. You can attach them to layouts and layout elements so that user actions trigger scripts (with optional parameters). Once again, this means that we can simplify scripts -- both new ones and legacy scripts. And there are other features -- the ability to save finds (which often does away with the need for small utility finding scripts) and a great FileMaker Server log tool. These and more are all in the book. You can order it from Amazon here.
